FAITH

Sculpture, 2015

For "FAITH" I balanced a 22Kg glass plate on the tip of a knife at a height of 1.79m (my exact height).

In theory it should be possible to balance any object under the right conditions by finding its absolute center of gravity. This idea, was my starting point. I proceeded by balancing the glas plate on progressively smaller surfaces.

This sculpture in its delicate balance forces the viewers to move slow and respectfully around it, the body instinctively feels the weight and potential energy in this precarious arrangement.

Faith challenges the boundaries of what reason deems possible; “it moves mountains”, its strengt and often violent expression, however, can crumble as soon as the belief wavers.
