OPHELIA

OPHELIA. 2017. Intervention / Performance. Woman, clothing, soil. Duration 40 min.
A woman was buried in the kitchen of a house in her hometown, San Felipe, Hidalgo, Mexico.
This work was inspired by John Everett Millais’s painting Ophelia, which in turn references the character from William Shakespeare’s play Hamlet.
A house with natural soil flooring was selected and a hole was dug. The woman was partially buried and remained motionless for the duration of the piece.
